Job Overview
We are seeking a versatile and detail-oriented Real Estate Accounting Manager to join our small, collaborative team. This role focuses on managing the financial operations of our commercial property portfolio and supporting development initiatives as needed. You will report directly to the CFO while working closely with our Director of Operations to ensure financial accuracy and efficiency. This is an ideal opportunity for a proactive professional who excels in environments requiring meticulous organization and precision.
Duties
-Manage all aspects of property accounting, including lease administration, rent, common area maintenance, real estate taxes, and occupancy costs, while overseeing month-end close, account reconciliations, and journal entries related to property and lease accounting.
-Collaborate with leadership, operations, and external partners to ensure lease compliance and proper financial reporting.
-Monitor and analyze occupancy expenses, identifying opportunities for cost control and efficiency, while assisting in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis related to property and occupancy costs.
-Ensure GAAP compliance and relevant lease accounting standards, and support external audit requirements by preparing documentation and providing explanations as needed.
-Handle tenant invoicing, rent collection, and credit memos to maintain steady cash flow, while tracking payments and bills to ensure accurate records and timely resolution of discrepancies.
-Assist the CFO with tax preparation, documentation, and filings for properties.
-Oversee LLC registrations and renewals to keep all entities current and compliant.
-Monitor insurance compliance for properties, tenants, and vendors to support risk management.
-Maintain general ledger accounts, prepare financial statements, and perform reconciliations for multiple properties, while using property management and accounting software to streamline processes and reporting.
Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification is a plus but not required.
-3-5 years of experience in real estate or property management accounting.
-Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, invoicing, tax support, and lease accounting standards.
-Proficiency in Sage 300 accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
-Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize in a small-team, fast-paced environment.
-Strong communication skills for working with team members, tenants, vendors, and external partners.
-Knowledge of real estate contracts, LLC management, and regulatory compliance is preferred.
-Proactive, team-oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy and problem-solving.
Exceptional attention to detail, particularly in record-keeping, tracking, and maintaining highly organized financial systems.
